The Lamb Who Is Worthy Part 2 | Revelation 5:1-14

Introduction: It has pleased God to be glorified in His Son. It has pleased God to be known in His Son and through His Son. It has pleased God to place the Son of God at the center of His plans for all things that He created. And as John is transported to heaven by means of a vision, and as he is beginning to witness what God will do to bring all things to their intended destiny, he sees a scene that has Christ at the center. Review: I. THE EXCLUSIVE WORTHINESS OF CHRIST (vs.1-5) Last time we saw that God is at work through this vision demonstrating the exclusive worthiness of His Son. Who is worthy to take the scroll from the hand of the Father and break its seals? Who is worthy — possessing the character and the rank — to set in motion the events that will result in the judgment of the world and the fulfillment of all God’s salvation promises? THE ANSWER IS SINGULAR. IT IS CHRIST. IT IS JESUS. NO ONE ELSE IN THE REALM OF ALL CREATION. Not among men. Not among the angels. JUST ONE — THE LORD JESUS CHRIST. And, if not for Christ, we would — of all people — be the people most to be pitied. He stands alone to be glorified as King of Kings and Lord of Lords. This morning, we begin with the second truth on display in this vision. The worthiness of Christ demands the worship of Christ. II. THE EXALTED WORSHIP OF CHRIST (vs.6-10) Who is this Lion from the tribe of Judah? Who is root of David? A. THE SACRIFICIAL LAMB OF GOD He is the LAMB. John sees Him standing. He is very much alive. John sees Him with the appearance of His sacrifice. “STANDING AS IF SLAIN.” That is a very unusual combination, isn’t it? But this is the Lamb of God who takes away our sins by His atoning sacrifice, and at the same time, gives us life by His resurrection and by His sovereign preservation. He ever lives to intercede on our behalf. The one who died to save us from our sins, was raised to give us everlasting life. B. THE SOVEREIGN LAMB OF GOD His sacrifice and resurrection are joined to His present sovereignty. He is personally at work all over the earth, and He is carrying out that work by the Spirit of God. 1. HE ACTS BY MEANS OF THE SPIRIT’S MINISTRY To say that He has the Spirit is to join the Spirit’s work to His own presence and activity. Notice the Spirit is “sent out” (agency) into all the earth. 2. HE ACTS WITH COMPLETE POWER He has seven horns. The horn speaks of power, and the power is perfect. 3. HE ACTS WITH PERFECT KNOWLEDGE His actions are with perfect wisdom, perfect knowledge. There is nothing in all the earth that He is not perfectly aware of.
